TRACK & FIELD: Chambersburg earns first 2 victories by beating CD East

COLONIAL PARK >> Chambersburg's track & field teams took care of the goose egg in the win column on Tuesday, with the boys taking a narrow 79-71 win over Central Dauphin East and the girls putting up a 93-57 victory over the Panthers at Landis Field.

"It was nice to get our first win; hopefully we can start a string of victories now," Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said.

Boys coach Bob Walker said, "The meet wasn't that unpredictable, but we got a few more of the swing points than they did. I'm pleased we were able to experience a win."

For the girls (1-2, 1-2 MPC), Sammi Lowery hit a height of 10-7 to win the pole vault and break her own outdoor mark.

The distance crew, led by Kaylee Mowery (first in 800 and 1600), Cadie Kiser (3200) and Ally Neidigh (2nd, 3rd), racked up plenty of points, while sprinters Miana Harrison (100, 12.3) and Cirsten Kelly (200, 26.2) both won an event with their best times of the year.

"Harrison and Kelly were outstanding today," Monheim said. "They were on two winning relays, too. It was nice to win all three relays, because we'd been getting beat up on them."

Other winners were Marissa Lepo (long jump) and Robyn Guarriello (100 hurdles).

For the boys (1-2, 1-2 MPC), the distance group was also a key. Tanner Amsley won the 800 and 1600 and Alex Hayden won the 3200, with Chris Wurtz taking second in all three events.

Walker said, "I challenged our distance guys to get all 32 points and they got 30, so that was good. Amsley had a solid time in the 800 (2:01.88) and Wurtz made a late charge to take second in the 3200, which was a swing of four points."

The Trojan winners were Kelton Chastulik in the discus, Nate Long in the javelin, Kendall Keepler in the high jump and Evan Vink in the pole vault.

"Our throwers got some good points for us," Walker said. "I was glad to see Keepler win. He's been helping us out in other events, but we want him to peak in the high jump now."
