BOYS TENNIS: Mercersburg takes 2nd, 1 point behind Lawrenceville, in MAPL tourney

MERCERSBURG >> Mercersburg Academy put together its best-ever finish in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League boys tennis tournament on Saturday and it was nearly good enough to wrest the title from Lawrenceville. But the Blue Storm fell one point short and had to settle for second place.

"It was an exciting tournament," Mercersburg coach Eric Hicks said. "Everyone played well today and I was proud of the guys for the way they competed."

The Ghodsi brothers both won their singles flights – Saaman won at No. 2 and Shayan took the No. 4 title. Saaman won tiebreakers in the semifinals and final, while Shayan won a tiebreaker in the final.

Elliot Hicks was the runner-up at No. 1 and Teddy Schoeck was second at No. 3 for the Blue Storm. Schoeck lost in a tiebreaker in the final.

The Mercersburg doubles team of John Huang and Alec Jones placed third.
