MID PENN TENNIS: Chambersburg falls in first day of Mid Penn tournament
LINGLESTOWN >> Chambersburg had a solid first round at the Mid Penn Conference Class AAA boys tennis tournament on Friday, with five of its six players reaching the second round.
But the Trojans weren't as fortunate the rest of the way, with the remainder of the team falling in the second round.
Jay Padalia was the No. 2 seed at No. 3 singles and got a bye in the first round, but he fell 7-5, 7-5 to Jared Owens of Central Dauphin East in the second round.
Aaron Palm grabbed a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win in the first round of No. 2 singles but fell 6-0, 6-1 to Jacob Jastrzebski of Hershey in the second.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Haris Ahmed and Naushair Hussain picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win in Round 1 for Chambersburg but fell 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. Garrett Ernst and Nayyer Malik battled back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win in the first round at No. 2 doubles but fell 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in Round 2.
Michael Chute fell 6-1, 6-1 to Sam Eisenhower in Round 1 of No. 1 singles, and the district qualifying doubles team of Chute and Palm fell 6-3, 6-1 in the first round.

JAMES BUCHANAN ADVANCES 1 >> James Buchanan's No. 1 doubles team of Isaac Shenton and Josh Summers went into the Class AA Mid Penn tournament as the No. 1 seed on Friday, earning a bye and clinching themselves a spot in the semifinals on Saturday.
The rest of the Rockets were unable to advance to the second day, but each of the singles won their first round matchups.
"We did what I expected today," JB coach Terri Beegle said. "The wind was crazy though. They said 10-15 mile-per-hour winds, but I bet it was closer to 25. It was tough to adjust to, but I thought our guys did well. It would have been nice to sneak one of our guys into the final."
Chance Wishard got things going at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Peter Greenbaum of Boiling Springs, but he then fell to fellow Bubbler and brother P.J. Greenbaum, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals.
At No. 2 singles, Clay Murray picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win in the first round but fell to Gabe Petrocich of East Pennsboro, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. Hunter Sowers also got a first-round win at No. 3 singles but fell to Greg Waznick of East Pennsboro, 6-3, 6-3 in the semis.
The No. 2 doubles team of Matt Schofield and Jalen Ayers and the district qualifier team of Wishard and Sowers both fell in the first round.
