BOYS TENNIS: Saturday's roundup

MERCERSBURG 4, BLAIR 3 >> Mercersburg Academy evenly split the singles matches in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League boys tennis match on Saturday, but earned the decisive point with two victories in doubles.

"Like in our last MAPL match, with Lawrenceville, we started off well in doubles, but our singles play was not as strong," Blue Storm coach Eric Hicks said.

The match came down to No. 3 singles, where Teddy Schoeck earned a hard-fought battle for Mercersburg (1-1, 1-1 MAPL). He defeated Jack Carney, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2.

"As he has done so many times, Teddy kept grinding away in a very long first set that he did well to win," Hicks said. "He cruised in the second set to give us the overall win."
