Boys' soccer: Shalom Christians shuts out Faith Christian to advance to MDCC Championship

MARION >> Shalom Christian opened its Mason-Dixon Christian Conference semifinal against Faith Christian with a goal in the first minute of play, and went on to secure a 4-0 victory.

The Flames advance to the MDCC Championship, which will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Academy against either the Knights or the Shenandoah Valley Patriots.

Cyrus Lehman got things started for Shalom (14-4-1) with an assist from Jonah Stains. Stains turned around to net a goal in the waning minutes of the first half, and Jacob Nicholas and Peter Livermore both scored in the second half. "This was our most complete game of the season for sure," Flames coach Chris Lehman said. "It definitely came at a great time. The guys' teamwork and hustle really started to pay off, and our defense and back line did an outstanding job tonight."

Jake Holderman, Mikey White and Nathan Schaffer anchored the defense for the Flames, who are now on a six-game winning streak.

Travis West and Micah Lehman split time in net, but did not need any saves in the shutout victory.
