BOYS SOCCER: Wednesday's roundup, McConnellsburg, Fannett-Metal pick up wins

MCCONNELLSBURG 12, FORBES ROAD 0 >> McConnellsburg poured in eight goals in the first half and overwhelmed Forbes Road in a Sideling Hill League game Wednesday afternoon.

Jake Boehme popped in five goals and had three assists to lead the Spartans (15-1, 10-1 SHL). McConnellsburg can win the SHL title with a win at Northern Bedford on Tuesday.

"We had a good turnout for our Pink Out game," Spartan coach Cory Houck said. "I thought the team played well on both sides of the ball. It's too bad Forbes Road doesn't have the numbers this year. They have a good coaching staff now, but they need to get more kids out."

Ethan Barclay had two goals and two assists for McConnellsburg, and Patrick Keefer (2), Chad Bunch, Jared DeShong and Cody Parson also had goals.

For the Cardinals (2-14, 0-11 SHL), goalkeeper Owen Gilbert made 19 saves.

FANNETT-METAL 4, SOUTHERN FULTON 1 >> Southern Fulton gave Fannett-Metal a bit of a scare – leading 1-0 at halftime – but the Tigers won the second half and came away with a Sideling Hill League win.

A penalty kick converted by Juan Mazariegos just before the end of the half put the Indians (4-12, 3-7 SHL) on top.

But in the second half, Mikell McGee scored three times for the Tigers (15-3, 10-2 SHL), and Layton Hoffmann had a goal and an assist.

Southern Fulton was missing several key players, who were competing in the ICC cross country meet.

F-M coach Greg Best said, "Southern Fulton played hard. It was our Senior Day and we started slow. But we finally got some goals when the midfield started winning the 50-50 balls, and the defense played better."
