BOYS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup, Chambersburg picks up 7th straight victory

STATE COLLEGE >> For the seventh game in a row, Chambersburg's boys soccer team put a mark in the win column.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Trojans picked up a key Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over State College, 3-1.

"This was a big game," Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. "State College came off beating Cumberland Valley and Central Dauphin, who are the top two teams in the league. In order for us to get higher up in the (District 3) power rankings – and we're still battling to win the Mid Penn – we had to get this win."

Joel Pineda started the scoring for the Trojans (11-2-2, 8-2-2 MPC) with his first goal of the season, and Nathan Maynard broke a 1-1 tie just three minutes into the second half with a header off a corner kick.

"Joel hasn't scored all season, but he works so hard off the ball," Grove said. "We as coaches talked last game about he was due for one, so for him to get the first goal, that was huge. That brought us some energy, especially on the road."

Ryley Reed, typically a defender, also scored off a set piece.

"Ryley joked around at practice about wanting to play forward," Grove said. "Tonight, Riley was right outside the 18, and he hit a heck of a goal off a corner. It was one of the nicest goals we've had all season."

Rafael Bonilla, Eric Dixon and Inigo Macias all had assists for the Trojans, who got six saves from Chandler Schur.

The Little Lions are 10-3-1 (7-3-1 MPC).

CAMP HILL 2, GREENCASTLE 1 >> With 30 seconds remaining in a non-league contest, Adam Jones netted a goal for Camp Hill, which narrowly defeated Greencastle-Antrim.

"We had a throw-in, and I pushed everybody up," Blue Devil coach Scott Gelsinger said. "They cleared it out, and one guy beat our defense. Our goalie came out, and (Jones) made a nice shot over top of him. Camp Hill is a very good team, and they just outplayed us tonight."

Austyn Smith scored the lone goal of the game for G-A (13-4). The Blue Devils were held without a corner kick and managed only 10 shots. The Lions are 14-1.

SHALOM CHRISTIAN 5, GRACE ACADEMY 2 >> Shalom Christian scored the first three goals of the game and went on to top Grace Academy in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game.

Jonah Stains tallied three of the goals for the Flames (12-4-1, 12-1-1 MDCC) and two were assisted by Tucker King, while Jerry Min and Zach Edwards also hit the net. Chase Martin had a pair of assists and Cyrus Lehman had one.

Shalom coach Chris Lehman said, "I liked our hustle and our passing all game long. We marked well and stepped to the ball well on defense, and we had some great finishes."

SHENANDOAH VALLEY 2, CUMB. VALLEY CHRISTIAN 0 >> Shenandoah Valley scored a goal in the first half and was the recipient of an own goal just as the second half started in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference win over Cumberland Valley Christian (5-13, 3-11 MDCC).

"This was the best game we've played, if you take away the two mistakes that they got their goals on," Blazers coach Stan Hott said. "They dominated us (6-1) the first time we played. We were right there this time, except for the costly mistakes."
