BOYS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup, Greencastle-Antrim wraps up MPC Colonial Division crown

GREENCASTLE >> Greencastle-Antrim put together a good game on offense and defense to send Boiling Springs to a 4-0 boys soccer defeat Tuesday night at Kaley Field.

The victory also clinched the Mid Penn Colonial Division championship for the second straight season for the Blue Devils (10-3, 8-1 MPC).

"The defense did a great job to hold them to just three shots, because they have a couple of kids who can fly," G-A coach Scott Gelsinger said.

The Devils' offense posted two goals in each half and spread the scoring around. Brandon Stuhler and Josh Kline netted shots in the first half, and Luke Ritz and Avery Wengert tallied in the second half. Ian Gelsinger, Brandon Barnhart and Chris Bowman contributed assists.

Scott Gelsinger said, "Stuhler is doing a good job right now holding the ball up for us and getting our offense going. We have guys running off of him and we finished some nice opportunities tonight."

For the Bubblers (8-4-1, 4-4-1 MPC), Sam Arnold made four saves.

WAYNESBORO 2, JAMES BUCHANAN 1 >> Aaron Tynicki scored the game's first goal just 2.9 seconds before the first half ended, leading Waynesboro to a 2-1 Mid Penn Colonial Division win over James Buchanan.

The Indians (5-8-1, 5-4 MPC) added a second tally when Derek Buhrman scored directly on a corner kick seven minutes into the second half. A minute later, Isaac Shenton scored for the Rockets (0-13-1, 0-8 MPC), but they couldn't tie it up.

JB coach Randy Jarrett said, "It takes shots to score goals and we're just starting to get opportunities. We feel like we're in every game, and by the reaction of the teams we play when the game is over, we can tell they feel it, too."

Three of the Rockets' last five games have been losses by just one goal.

SHIPPENSBURG 4, BIG SPRING 3 >> Shippensburg had to battle back, but it did just that and captured a narrow Mid Penn Colonial Division victory over rival Big Spring.

"Big Spring had a pretty good game plan," Ship coach Warren Jones said. "Our guys may have taken things a little lightly. It was quite a fight for our guys to get back in."

The game was tied 2-2 at halftime, but the Greyhounds (7-8-1, 5-3-1 MPC) scored a pair of goals in the second half and held off the Bulldogs for the victory. Braxton Shetter and Jacob Cox scored in the second half, while Chandler Olson and Ian Weikel had the first-half goals.

"We really turned it up in the second half, which was nice to see," Jones said. "We got some really good play out of our bench personnel tonight. A couple of younger guys really helped us out on defense, and Jacob Cox came through with the big goal for us tonight."

SHALOM CHRISTIAN 1, HERITAGE ACADEMY 0 >> Chase Martin scored a goal in the seventh minute of the game, and Shalom Christian made it stand up for a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference victory over Heritage Academy.

Jonah Stains had a throw-in that went right into the box, and although it bounced around a bit, Martin stepped to the ball and had a finish off the far-pst.

"Overall, it was a good game for us," Shalom coach Chris Lehman said. "Our defense played really well. Jake (Holderman), Mikey (White) and Nathan (Schaffer) all had really great games, and we locked it down on defense."

Heritage Academy managed only eight shots and two corners. Travis West had three saves in net for the Flames (9-4-1, 9-0-1 MDCC).

FAITH CHRISTIAN 3, CUMB. VALLEY CHRISTIAN 2 >> Cumberland Valley Christian took an early lead, but three consecutive goals by Faith Christian brought the Falcons a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference victory.

Soto Ono scored just before halftime for the Blazers (5-10, 3-8 MDCC) to give his team the lead, and again with 12 minutes left in the game. The assists went to Sterling Bard and Spencer Propst. But in between, Faith scored three times.

CVC coach Stan Hott said, "Eli Black (19 saves) had a phenomenal game in goal. Our defense was slouching, but he picked up the slack."

Goalkeeper Bryce Ulsh made 11 saves for the Cardinals (2-8, 0-6 SHL).
