BOYS SOCCER: McConnellsburg takes early lead and defeats Shalom Christian

MARION >> McConnellsburg rode a strong first half and a three-goal night by Patrick Keefer to capture a big non-league boys soccer victory Saturday night and remain unbeaten.

The Spartans took a 3-1 halftime lead and prevailed 4-2 over Shalom Christian on the Flames' Homecoming night.

"It was a tough game for us, but the guys fought hard, and the defense stepped up in the second half," Flames coach Chris Lehman said.

Jake Boehme assisted on the first two goals for McConnellsburg (9-0), by Keefer and Landon Richards. Jake Holderman then pulled Shalom (8-3-1) within a goal when his direct kick found the net. But three minutes later, Keefer got his second tally to make it 3-1 at halftime.

Lehman said, "McConnellsburg did not give us a lot of time on the ball. We had to adjust and make quicker runs and quicker passes."

Keefer completed his hat trick with a goal to make it 4-1 with 17 minutes left, then the Flames' Chase Martin finished the scoring on a pass from Jerry Min.
