BOYS SOCCER: Saturday's roundup, Fannett-Metal hands James Buchanan a 3-0 loss

MERCERSBURG >> Fannett-Metal's boys soccer team apparently enjoyed playing the wide-open spaces of James Buchanan's new soccer stadium on Saturday night.

The Tigers played one of their better games of the season and took a 3-0 non-league victory over the Rockets.

"We kind of circle this game on our schedule," F-M coach Greg Best said. "The stadium was great to play in. We applied some pressure to their defense and found some holes, and then we finished.

"I know they had played pretty well this week in close losses to Shippensburg and Greencastle, but our style is different and may have caught them off-guard. I was very pleased with our team effort."

Mikell McGee got Fannett-Metal (6-2) on the board in the first half. McGee scored again 10 minutes into the second half on a pass from Levi Brady, then Makayla O'Donel finished the scoring five minutes later. Jamie Birgfield made 11 saves to preserve the shutout, while Sean Martin made six for JB (0-11-1).

Best said, "I thought our defense played very well to get the shutout. They are fast up front, but our defense did well covering for each other and covering their marks."
