BOYS SOCCER: Thursday's roundup, Brandon Stuhler's goal in OT lifts Greencastle-Antrim over Waynesboro

GREENCASTLE >> Greencastle-Antrim gained a measure of revenge Thursday night for its only loss in the Mid Penn Colonial Division in boys soccer.

The Blue Devils got a goal in the first overtime period by Brandon Stuhler to capture a 2-1 victory over rival Waynesboro.

"Just another tough game against Waynesboro," said G-A coach Scott Gelsinger, whose team fell 2-0 to the Indians earlier in the season. "We let them hang around, but we were lucky enough to score one in overtime."

Kaleb Hurley gave the Devils (7-2, 5-1 MPC) the lead with about 29 minutes left when he converted a penalty kick. The Waynesboro foul was for grabbing Luke Herman as he went past the goalkeeper.

But the Indians (3-7, 3-3 MPC) tied it with just over 10 minutes left when Aaron Tylicki pounced on a loose ball from Joey Daniels that snuck under G-A goalkeeper Bryson Robinson.

The game-winner came after a throw-in from Ian Gelsinger. Stuhler was in the right position when the ball came to him about six yards out and he made no mistake with his shot.

Scott Gelsinger said, "At times we played well and passed it around well. Herman hit the past with a shot in the overtime, and their keeper (James Barr) made some nice saves."

SHIPPENSBURG 2, JAMES BUCHANAN 1 >> James Buchanan, and especially goalkeeper Sean Martin, gave Shippensburg fits for the vast majority of their Mid Penn Colonial Division game, but the Greyhounds scored twice in the closing five minutes to pull it out.

The Rockets (0-10-1, 0-6 MPC) took a lead in the first half when Isaac Shenton banged in a direct kick from about 25 yards away.

And the JB defense, particularly Martin (16 saves) made that goal stand up for a long time.

"I thought JB played good soccer – a lot of 1-2 touches and switching the ball – and they gave us everything they had in the first half," Ship coach Warren Jones said. "And Martin was phenomenal. Five or six of his saves were point-blank. He got to one inside the six on a full-out dive and tipped another over the bar."

The Hounds (6-4-1, 4-1-1- MPC) finally broke through in the 75th minute when Matt West gave a through ball to Braxton Shetter, who took a couple of touches and then slotted the ball past Martin. Shippensburg then got the game-winner with less than two minutes to go when Shetter took a pass from Jackson VanHorne on the right side and scored again.

"It took an awful long time for things to start working," Jones said. "We had to move some guys up front – like Jackson is usually a midfielder. We had 27 of our 35 shots in the second half. Chandler Olson played well and we had a couple of the younger kids (Aiden Howard, Ryzeson Maravich) step up tonight."

SHALOM CHRISTIAN 7, CV CHRISTIAN 1 >> Shalom Christian took a 3-0 lead after one half of play and went on to hand rival Cumberland Valley Christian a 7-1 victory in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game.

Tucker King, Chase Martin and Jonah Stains all hit the net in the first 45 minutes for the Flames (7-2-1, 7-0-1 MDCC).

But the Blazers (2-8, 2-6 MDCC) made it more interesting when Eric Woo scored early in the second half, from Kenneth Hott, to make it 3-1.

Shalom then tallied a trio of goals over the next six minutes to salt the game away. Peter Livermore, Stains and Tobin King scored those decisive goals and Tanner Gibble added the final score. Stains and Jake Holderman each notched a pair of assists.

"It was a great game for us," Flames coach Chris Lehman said. "Cyrus (Lehman) and Chase (Martin) really hustled and controlled the flow of the game in the midfield. It was also nice to have several guys tally goals or have assists for us."

Eli Black made 21 saves for CVC, while Travis West had three for Shalom.
