BOYS SOCCER: Monday's roundup, Shippensburg secures late victory over Northeastern


MANCHESTER >> Despite trailing by a goal at halftime, Shippensburg's boys soccer team stormed back to capture a 2-1 victory over Northeastern in non-league action Monday night.

Jackson VanHorne became the hero for the Greyhounds (5-4) when he broke a 1-1 tie with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Nathan Marpoe was credited with the assist.

Ship was held scoreless in the first half, but kept the pressure on for the entire game. The Hounds out-shot Northeastern, 21-6, and had nine corner kicks, compared to just three for the Bobcats.

Matt West tied it up midway through the second half with an assist from Eli Hubbard, and Spencer McKenna needed just three saves to preserve the victory.

FANNETT-METAL 11, NORTHERN BEDFORD 0 >> Fannett-Metal put on an offensive display Monday night to blitz Northern Bedford in a Sideling Hill League game.

Layton Hoffmann was in torrid form, knocking in six goals and adding an assist for the Tigers (4-2, 3-1 SHL). Mikell McGee put in three goals and had a pair of assists, Kolby Hammond had a goal and an assist and Makayla O'Donel also put one into the net.

Jamie Birgfield and Colby Adams each made five saves in the shutout.

F-M coach Greg Best said, "The kids were excited to play under the lights and played with a lot of spirit. It was some of the best passing I've seen this year."

CHESTNUT RIDGE 2, FORBES ROAD 1 >> Chestnut Ridge broke a 1-1 tie on a goal by Corey Amick with just 13:20 left in regulation to edge Forbes Road in a Sideling Hill League game Monday.

The Lions' Connor Roose broke a scoreless draw, but Aaron Schepis drew the Cardinals (1-4, 0-3 SHL) even when he converted a penalty kick midway through the second half.

Bryce Ulsh made 13 saves for Forbes Road.
