BOYS SOCCER: Saturday's roundup, Greencastle picks up 1 win at its own tournament

GREENCASTLE >> It was a rough day for Shippensburg and Greencastle-Antrim's boys soccer teams at the Greencastle Tournament.

The teams combined for only one victory. The Blue Devils picked up a 2-0 win over Susquehanna Township before falling to Bermudian Springs, 3-2.

Shippensburg, on the other hand, was swept after struggling to get its offense going. Bermudian Springs beat the Greyhounds, 2-0, and Susquehanna Township won, 4-1.

The Blue Devils (5-2) came out of the gate strong, earning two quick second-half goals from Brandon Stuhler. He scored an unassisted goal in the 46th minute before netting another less than two minutes later, this time with a helper from Luke Herman.

"The first game, we passed the ball around pretty well," Greencastle coach Scott Gelsinger said. "We played good defense against Susquehanna Township, and they had some guys that were fast."

In the second game, Jared Spoonhour did the scoring for the Devils with assists from Stuhler and Herman.

"I think Bermudian just wore us down a little bit physically," Gelsinger said. "It seemed like we were chasing them for most of the game."

Shippensburg's issue wasn't necessarily offense; it was finishing. The Greyhounds out-shot both teams and had more corners than either, but managed only one goal on the day.

"Both teams we played today were quality teams," Ship coach Warren Jones said. "We just have to find a little more scoring punch and be able to finish. We had opportunities and had some decent shots, so I think it was frustrating for the guys to play as hard as they did and not finish."

Ian Weikel scored the lone goal of the day for the Hounds (4-4).

"Conemaugh is always a long travel day for us," McConnellsburg coach Cory Houck said. "We actually left at 8 a.m. for a 1 p.m. soccer game because our girls played also. The guys did a good job of staying loose and picking up a big road win."

Hunter Souders had four saves in the shutout.
