BOYS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup, Nathan Maynard's 2 goals leads Chambersburg to victory

LEWISTOWN >> Nathan Maynard scored his first two goals of the season Tuesday afternoon, and that played a big role in Chambersburg collecting a boys soccer victory.

The Trojans earned a 4-1 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over Mifflin County to raise their record to 3-1 (2-1 MPC).

Chambersburg was credited with the game's only goal in the first half when the Huskies knocked the ball into their own goal.

John Ramirez made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the second minute of the second half. Then Maynard got busy, scoring goals in the 56th minute (assisted by Victor Canel) and the 60th (from Chuy Munoz).

The Trojans held a 20-5 advantage in shots. Chambersburg goalkeepers Chandler Schur (2) and Jacob Dougal (3) combined for five saves.

Big Spring out-shot the Rockets (0-6-1, 0-3 MPC) only 10-8 and had just one more corner kick opportunity.

Seth Martin had three saves for JB.

The Indians (1-6, 1-2 MPC) matched the Bubblers with nine shots, but couldn't score. Waynesboro has been shut out in four straight games.

SHENANDOAH VALLEY 4, SHALOM CHRISTIAN 3, OT >> Shalom Christian was handed its first loss of the season when Shenandoah Valley scored a goal two minutes from the end of the first overtime to take the non-league clash.

"It was a great game and our guys played a heck of a game," Flames coach Chris Lehman said. "We fought hard and were hustling all over the field. It's definitely a good one to build on."

Peter Livermore and Tucker King scored goals for Shalom (5-1-1) to tie the game 1-1 and 2-2, then teammate Tanner Gibble scored with 19:28 left to produce a 3-2 advantage.
