BOYS SOCCER: Chambersburg runs to 3-1 win over Red Land

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg scored the first three goals of the game Thursday night and allowed only one outstanding individual effort by Red Land.

That enabled the Trojans to record a 3-1 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division boys soccer victory at Trojan Stadium.

"I thought we played well," said Chambersburg coach Corey Grove, after his first career coaching win. "We lost the first game, but it was a step in the right direction, and tonight we showed what we can do. We defended our stadium."

Erik Espinoza put the Trojans in front 22 minutes into the first half, taking a through pass from Eric Dixon and zipping a shot into the net.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, freshman Chuy Munoz doubled the score when he got to a ball coming out of the penalty area and banking a shot off the post and into the net.

Grove said, "That was a big goal by Chuy. He was composed and had a nice finish. I'm happy for him – that's big-time to score in his second game."

The Trojans (1-1, 1-1 MPC) wrapped it up five minutes later when Rafael Bonilla tallied his third goal of the season, placing a shot into the right corner of the cage. The Patriots got on the board when Chad Stout, the defending Commonwealth Player of the Year, dribbled through several defenders before scoring.

"That was just a great effort by a great player," Grove said. "I think we worked the ball very well and kept possession. We did a lot of good things, but I still see areas for improvement, and that's actually a good thing."

Chambersburg got five saves by keeper Chandler Schur and out-shot Red Land 26-8.
