BOYS SOCCER: Wednesday's roundup, early goals propel McConnellsburg past Chestnut Ridge

MCCONNELLSBURG >> McConnellsburg scored two early goals and used a strong first half to get by Chestnut Ridge on Wednesday.

The Lions scored two second half goals to make things interesting, but the Spartans put one away late to preserve a 4-2 Sideling Hill League victory.

Patrick Keefer and Josh Booth scored in the fourth and fifth minutes, respectively, to give McConnellsburg (2-0, 1-0 SHL) a 2-0 cushion. Keefer then found Jake Boehme in the 38th minute to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Chestnut Ridge battled back thanks to some self-inflicted wounds by the Spartans. The Lions scored their first goal on a penalty kick and crept within one of the lead with an own goal in the 70th minute. But Landon Richards put the game away with a goal five minutes later.

"Even though we scored some goals, our offensive chemistry just isn't there," McConnellsburg coach Cory Houck said. "Our offensive is just off, but we did enough to get the win."

The Spartans out-shot Chestnut Ridge 13-5, and Hunter Souders finished with four saves for the Spartans.
