WAYNESBORO >> Waynesboro played excellent defense and combined that with an opportunistic offense to earn a big win over rival Greencastle-Antrim on Tuesday night.

The Indians got a goal and assist from Aaron Tynicki in the second half to win the Mid Penn Colonial Division opener.

"Anytime we beat Greencastle, that's a big win, because they're always a good team that plays hard against us," 'Boro coach Brian Stum said.

G-A coach Scott Gelsinger said, "Waynesboro was just more physical than us – they won every 50-50 ball. We had some good opportunities, but their keeper (James Barr, 8 saves) made some nice saves. And then they scored on a breakaway and put us in a hole. Tynicki beat two defenders on that play and it was a nice goal."

Tynicki was assisted by Nathan Cordell in the 52nd minute, then sealed the win in the 65th by passing to Andrew Wolff for the second score.

Stum said, "The kids really hustled tonight. They understand that they're not always going to be the most skilled team, and we have to make up for that in other ways. And they're buying in to that."

SHIPPENSBURG 3, JAMES BUCHANAN 1 >> Shippensburg broke a 1-1 halftime tie with a pair of goals in the second half to defeat James Buchanan in a Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

Matt West scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to put the Greyhounds (2-1, 1-0 MPC) ahead 2-1, then Jackson VanHorne sealed it in the 66th minute after a pass from Braxton Shetter.

Taha Shamshudin put Ship ahead in the first half, but Alec Truett evened it up after a pass from Bailey Keefer.

JB coach Randy Jarrett said, "Shippensburg was a team with a lot of energy, and on a big field, it gave them strength. I'm proud of my guys for going toe-to-toe with the limited substitutions we have. We defended well, which in turn gave us offensive opportunities."

CUMB. VALLEY CHRISTIAN 5, HERITAGE 3 >> Sterling Bard carried the offense for Cumberland Valley Christian and it was enough for the Blazers to defeat Heritage Academy in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game.

Bard scored one goal and assisted on three others.

"Sterling came out and controlled the midfield for us, and he created a lot of openings," Blazers coach Stan Hott said.

Eric Woo posted two goals for CV Christian (2-3, 2-2 MDCC), and Soto Ono and Spencer Propst each hit the net once. The Eagles got within 4-3 with 12 minutes left, but Woo's second goal iced the win.

SHALOM CHRISTIAN 4, BROADFORDING 1 >> Shalom Christian was tested by Broadfording for most of the day, but it used two late goals to pull away for a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference victory.

The Flames (4-0-1, 4-0-1 MDCC) took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals by Jonah Stains and Cyrus Lehman, but Broadfording answered 10 minutes into the second half on a goal by Daniel Durst. The game stayed close until the Flames scored two goals in the final six minutes.

"It was a good, solid game for us," Shalom coach Chris Lehman said. "Give Broadfording credit, they really pressed us and played us tough, but our midfielders hustled all over and created some good chances."

Jerry Min and Tucker King also scored for the Flames, and Stains had two assists and Chase Martin one.
