BOYS SOCCER: Chambersburg rallies against Central Dauphin, but falls in OT

LINGLESTOWN >> In the first game of the season, the Chambersburg boys soccer team found itself staring down a 3-0 deficit against Central Dauphin after just over 18 minutes of play.

The Trojans picked themselves back up, however, to draw even Tuesday afternoon before finally being edged 4-3 by the Rams midway through the second overtime.

"CD is one of the favorites to win the league and they had us down 3-0 right away," said Corey Grove, who was coaching his first game for Chambersburg. "We had to make some changes."

Those changes apparently worked.

Erik Espinoza got one goal back in the 21st minute on an assist by Rafael Bonilla Rivera.

Then, shortly after halftime, the Trojans pulled even. Bonilla Rivera knocked in two goals, in the 44th and 53rd minutes, on assists from Griffin Redding and John Ramirez.

Grove said, "The players showed plenty of heart – it was big to come back and tie it up. I now know what kind of team I have. We had the momentum in the second half and overtime, but they got a good opportunity and put it in."

Bonilla Rivera did well in his debut for Chambersburg, with two goals and an assist.

"Rafael and Erik are looking good together," Grove said. "They were on Erik right away, but Rafael can take the pressure off Erik. He's a phenomenal player."
