BOYS SOCCER: Friday's roundup, Quick start helps McConnellsburg over James Buchanan

MCCONNELLSBURG >> McConnellsburg got its boys soccer season off to a flying start Friday night.

The Spartans scored a pair of first-half goals and went ahead 3-0 in the second, then prevailed 3-1 in a non-league contest against James Buchanan.

"McConnellsburg played a very great game and they play well 1v1," Rockets coach Randy Jarrett said. "We had a few players go down throughout the game, so our concentration is making sure they're healthy. We played every single player we had available and it was good to see teammates step up for one another."

The Spartans got off to a quick start when Ethan Barclay knocked in a goal in the game's first minute. Jake Boehme then tallied the next goals for McConnellsburg (1-0).

"It was a good start for us," McConnellsburg coach Cory Houck said. "To beat an AA school, that gets us some extra points. But it was a pretty sloppy game, so we definitely have a lot to work on to get ready for our next game Wednesday."

For JB (0-1), Adam Heintzelman scored off a pass from Derek Pine.
