CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg's boys lacrosse team trailed by just two goals heading into halftime of a Mid Penn Conference game Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium.
But then Cumberland Valley exploded for nine goals in the third quarter and rode the momentum for a 17-7 victory.
"All of a sudden, in the third quarter, we're not winning faceoffs, which is a bread and butter for us," Trojan coach Paul Flohr said. "Really, all the things we did really well in the first half went out of the window."
The Eagles (9-0, 7-0 MPC) racked up 52 shots and had three players – Stevie Peters, John Miller and CJ Sherlock – with a hat trick or better.
"We went back to playing a lot of defense," Flohr said. "We were just shooting ourselves in the foot by throwing the ball away, not picking up ground balls. It was like, we felt good about ourselves and then we got lazy."
Chambersburg (3-5, 2-5 MPC) also failed to take advantage of some golden opportunities. The Trojans had a man advantage for three minutes to start the second quarter but couldn't capitalize.
Jake Pierson and Grant Swisher led the Trojans with two goals apiece, while Cedric Adams, Matt Snider and Colyn Parham each scored once.
Despite some clearly nagging injuries from Monday night's game, Blake Amsley played well for the Trojans.
"We actually didn't get a doctor's note that said he could play until midway through the first quarter," Flohr said. "You could tell he was still hurting, so we ended up taking him out in the third, but he played great. Just the sheer toughness of him was great to see. We thought he broke his leg last night, so hats off to him."

Girls lacrosse
CUMBERLAND VALLEY 18, CHAMBERSBURG 0 >> Chambersburg couldn't overcome a tough Cumberland Valley squad, suffering a Mid Penn Conference shutout.
"We played a strong first half, but the girls started to get frustrated as CV continued to pull away," Trojan coach Katie Feairheller said. "The attack was able to capitalize on their opportunities during the first half. We also looked tired from yesterday's game."
The Trojans (2-7, 1-5 MPC) managed just two shots on goal, and Alyssa Boock had three saves in net.
