Cross country: Mercersburg Academy boys place fourth at PAISAA State Championship meet

PHILADELPHIA >> The Mercersburg boys cross country team finish fourth at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association State Championship meet Saturday for the best Mercersburg boys' team finish at the meet in the last 15 years.

The Blue Storm finished with 132 points.

"The boys were aiming for a top-two finish, so they were a bit disappointed," Mercersburg coach David Grady said. "Germantown Friends ran an outstanding team race, so we would not have touched them."

Nick Dahl of Germantown Friends won the race, finishing at 16:05, while Mercersburg's Gabriel Allgayer earned second overall with a 16:38 finish.

"Gabriel was really hoping to come away with the win today, and we thought he was ready," Grady said. "Nick Dahl ran a gutsy race by pushing so hard in the early and middle stages of the race. Even if you are not satisfied, you can't feel all that bad when the guy who wins goes out and runs such a super race. I think Gabriel can keep his head high knowing he raced hard and had a significant accomplishment in finishing 2nd overall."
