MCCONNELLSBURG - McConnellsburg took care of business Friday night, and as a result the Spartans will be the No. 1 seed when the District 5 Class A playoffs begin next Thursday.

McConnellsburg defeated Tussey Mountain 55-43 in a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference boys basketball game to finish the regular season with a record of 19-3 (14-2 SHL, 12-2 ICC).

“They made us earn it,” Spartan coach Dane Pollock said. “We didn’t shoot the ball well early, but Ian (Cheatle) carried us tonight. He scored 23 points and played good help defense at the other end of the floor.”

Cheatle’s scoring performance was a career high and he added seven rebounds. McConnellsburg also got 11 points from Landon Richards and 10 from Jake Boehme. Chase Novak made six assists.

“I thought Shawn Garlock did a good job on their big guy (Andrew Bithell),” Pollock said.
