BOYS: Wednesday, McConnellsburg passes test

McCONNELLSBURG - McConnellsburg faced a big test Wednesday night before its rivalry game at Southern Fulton on Friday, and passed with flying colors.

The Spartans claimed a 63-50 Sideling Hill League boys basketball victory over Chestnut Ridge.

“We just seem to match up well with them,” McConnellsburg coach Dane Pollock said. “And we needed this one - we haven’t been playing well. But tonight we really got into our offense. We got the lead and were able to run our offense, found some mismatches and got some good looks early that got us going.”

The Spartans (13-2, 9-1 SHL) led by two points at halftime, then outscored the Lions 17-9 in the decisive third quarter.

Chase Novak beat his season-high scoring total by four with his 23 points, and Jake Boehme put up 20 points and five assists. Quintin Miller led in rebounds with eight.

Pollock said, “Our inside guys did a great job on Jay Grubb (5 points), who is 6-7 and will be playing in college. Miller guarded him, but we double- and triple-teamed him. We overplayed him and made the other guys beat us.”
