BOYS: Monday, Greencastle rallies vs. Delone

MCSHERRYSTOWN - Greencastle-Antrim found itself trailing Delone Catholic 42-37 on the road after three quarters on Monday night in a non-league boys basketball game.

But the Blue Devils fought back in the final quarter, outscoring the Squires 18-6, helped by a 13-for-16 effort at the foul line. They finished with a 55-48 victory.

“I was very pleased with the foul shooting; we made a high percentage (21 of 26, 81%, for the game),” G-A coach Gary Martin said. “Delone didn’t play like a team that’s been struggling. They came after us and led by nine at halftime.”

Greencastle (9-5), which halted a three-game losing streak despite not having starter Bryan Gembe (out sick), got 21 points from Casey Hoover and 13 from Sam Sprague, which matched his season-high production.

Fannett-Metal 81, Tussey Mountain 77: Defense took a vacation in the fourth quarter of Fannett-Metal’s Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference game.

The Tigers led by seven points after three periods, then gave up 30 points in the final period. But - no worries - the Tigers put up 27 of their own.

“In the fourth quarter it was like watching an NBA game; there was no defense,” Fannett-Metal coach Greg Best said. “It was just bucket after bucket and we kept answering each other. They were able to penetrate our zone, and we were able to break their press and got a lot of easy layups. A couple of fans said it was a very fun game to watch.”

Mikell McGee fired in 30 points - including 13 in the last quarter -  for the Tigers (3-11, 2-7 SHL, 2-6 ICC), who snapped a seven-game losing skid. Lucas Wingert bagged 19 points to help out; Wingert was just shy of the double-double with nine rebounds.

“Wingert has been doing well and McGee shot really well," Best said. "And he draws so much attention that he made some nice passes for assists. It helped that we had eight guys score, too.”

Sawyer Rosenberry led the way on the boards for the Tigers with 13 rebounds.

Parker Cornelius scored 16 of his 27 points in the last period for the Titans, who put three players over 20 points.

McConnellsburg 63, Southern Huntingdon 42: Despite making some circus shots, Southern Huntingdon couldn’t keep up with McConnellsburg in a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference game.

The Rockets made half-court shots to end the first and second quarters, and hit a shot at the buzzer of the third quarter.

But after leading by eight after one quarter, McConnellsburg (11-2, 7-1 SHL, 6-1 ICC) steadily increased its lead.

“We played a lot of guys and 11 guys scored,” Spartan coach Dane Pollock said. “We tried to find our rhythm after we missed 16 of 32 layups last week against Forbes Road, and we shot a little better tonight. Shawn Garlock had his best game since he’s been back.”

Chase Novak led McConnellsburg with 16 points and five assists, while Garlock had eight points and eight rebounds.
