BOYS: Monday, McConnellsburg puts 5 in double figures

WILLOW HILL - McConnellsburg’s boys basketball team built up a sizeable lead then added it to in the third quarter en route to a big victory over Fannett-Metal in Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference action Monday night.

The Spartans led by16 points at halftime, outscored the Tigers 25-11 in the third frame and claimed a 75-44 victory.

Five different players finished in double figures for McConnellsburg (8-1, 5-0 SHL, 4-0 ICC). Jake Boehme led the way with 17 points, while Chase Novak and Ian Cheatle each contributed 12.

Quintin Miller had the game’s only double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to go along with a trio of steals. Ryan Koontz also had 10 points.

Boehme and Novak split 10 assists evenly.

Both Layton Hoffmann (13 points) and Lucas Wingert (12) were big offensive contributors for the Tigers (2-7, 1-4 SHL, 1-3 ICC), but they just couldn’t match McConnellsburg’s offensive firepower.

“We came out a bit sluggish,” Spartan coach Dane Pollock said. “It was 11-7 until about a minute left in the first quarter, but we came out and played really well in the third quarter, which has been our bad quarter.”

Sawyer Rosenberry had five points and seven rebounds for F-M, and Hoffmann contributed four steals.

McConnellsburg held F-M leading scorer Mikell McGee to just one field goal and nine total points.
