BOYS: Saturday, Ship falls to Middletown

MIDDLETOWN - After working its way back from a 12-point deficit late in the third quarter, Shippensburg's boys basketball team fell short of a comeback, dropping a non-league game to Middletown in a 54-53 decision Saturday.

"We didn’t really come to play," Shippensburg coach Ray Staver said. "We got off to a really slow start."

The Greyhounds worked their way back from the early deficit to take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, but a free throw from Ryan Hughes with 11 seconds left in the game lifted Middletown over Shippensburg (7-4).

"We had a couple possessions to get a bigger lead but we didn't execute," Staver said.

Cody Gustafson led the Hounds with 16 points, followed by Wade Mills who scored 15. Mills was at the free throw line 13 times Saturday, converting nine attempts. Carter Van Scyoc also scored 10 points for Shippensburg.

Ryan Hughes led the Blue Raiders (7-3) with 20 points.
