BOYS: Monday, Greencastle downs Broadfording

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. >> Despite a slow start, Greencastle-Antrim rebounded to lock in a win over Brodafording, 65-34, in the first round of the Richard Doub Tournament in Williamsport, Md.

After what coach Gary Martin called a start in “slow motion,” the Blue Devils picked up the pace, outscoring Broadfording 43-12 in the second and third frames.

“We had low energy, but eventually a bucket here, a bucket there got us rolling,” Martin said. “We didn’t come out of the gate playing inspired basketball, but I’m glad we caught up before it got out of hand.”

Casey Hoover led Greencastle (5-2) with 16 points, and collected seven steals and a blocked shot. Brandon Stuhler followed with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Bryan Gembe scored 12 points.

Southern Fulton 61, Hancock 29 >> Southern Fulton got an early jump on Hancock to capture a first-round win at the Tri-State Shootout in Berkeley Springs, W.Va..

The Indians went into the break with an outstanding 40-8 lead after outscoring Hancock 22-8 in the first, and keeping the Panthers off the board all together in the second frame.

Southern Fulton (6-1) was led by Trent Rider, who had 24 points, followed by Dylan Gordon with 14. Carl Potter had six points, five rebounds and eight assists.
