BOYS: Tuesday, Greencastle tames Waynesboro

GREENCASTLE - Casey Hoover poured in 24 points to help Greencastle-Antrim take care of business against Mid Penn Colonial Division rival Waynesboro, 61-45, on Tuesday night in a boys basketball game.

Hoover had five 3-pointers, including one in each quarter. He made two early in the fourth before taking a seat.

“We put it together in the second half and got ahead by 22 early in the last quarter,” G-A coach Gary Martin said. “It was nice to see Spencer Meyers back inside - he and (Sam) Sprague and (Matt) Lutz have done well sharing the post. We need to be getting to the line more, though.”

While the Indians (0-8, 0-5 MPC) went to the foul line 17 times, the Blue Devils (4-2, 3-1 MPC) were just 2-for-3.

For Waynesboro, Cameron Keck scored 20 points to hit at least 20 for the third time in four games. Evan Hine also contributed a career-high 18.

“Sometimes we settle for too many threes, but tonight we were hitting them,” McConnellsburg coach Dane Pollock said. “We’re staying balanced in our scoring, so it’s hard to guard us, and we’re moving the ball well.”

Chase Novak (14 points), Jake Boehme (11 points, 5 assists), Landon Richards (10 points), Quintin Miller (9 points, 9 rebounds) and Ryan Kontz (4 steals) led the Spartans (6-0).

Southern Fulton 56, Forbes Road 20 >> Southern Fulton’s defense was too much for a Forbes Road team missing two starters and the Indians romped to a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference win.

“We were down two starters today with injuries and had to play some younger kids who are not use to the rotation just yet,” Cardinals coach Trent Black said. “But that's no excuse by any means. You’re not gonna win any games scoring 20 points. Our guys played hard the entire game and that's all I can ask for.”

The Indians (5-1, 3-0 SHL/ICC) led 22-5 at halftime and 42-14 after three quarters over Forbes Road (2-4, 1-4 SHL, 1-3 ICC).

Trent Rider hit his high game of the year for SF with 24 points and Dylan Gordon chipped in 13. For the Cardinals, Talon Blair and Matt Brown each scored five.
