BOYS HOOPS: Monday, Forbes Road earns first win

HUSTONTOWN -- For the first time this season, Trent Black and Forbes Road's boys basketball team are victors.

The Cardinals came from behind to earn a 48-42 win over Shalom Christian in a non-league game Monday. Despite scoring just seven points in the first quarter, the Cardinals (1-2) worked their way back, outscoring Shalom 32-17 in the middle two frames.

“I think we panicked a little at the beginning, and started rushing some things,” Black said. “They were putting decent pressure on us but we settled back down.”

Forbes Road’s top three each scored double figures, with eight total scorers. Aaron Schepis and Matt Brown split 24 points evenly, while Brycen Hohman contributred 11 points.

“It’s nice to get some of the guys in double figures,” Black said. “Jackson (Chilcote) came off the bench and gave us a spark defensively.”

Jonah Stains led Shalom (3-2) with 18 points, followed by Cameron Roseman, who scored 16.

"We did not come out with a sense of urgency and were unable to get a win," Flames coach Danley Shank said. "I thought Forbes Road out-hustled us and played harder than we did."
