Mercersburg boys take 2nd in Mussleman Winter Classic

Musselman 76, Mercersburg Academy 38 >> The Mercersburg Academy boys basketball team claimed second place in the Musselman Winter Classic tournament after a loss to the host team in the championship game.

After a 49-32 win over Jefferson in the first round of the tournament, the Blue Storm (2-2) fell flat in the middle two frames of the final, allowing the Applemen to go into the half with a 37-21 lead, and was then limited to just four points in the third.

"Musselman is a very fundamental team that ran well and took advantage of some lapses in our defense," Mercersburg coach Sean Crocker said. "They shot the ball extremely well (8 3-pointers)."

Luka Sevaljevic led Mercersburg with 16 points and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

"We will regroup and figure out a way to improve," Crocker said. "Every game is an opportunity to learn and get better and that is how we are taking this game."
