F-F pulls 3 all-state honors in girls hoops

For the second year in a row, Greencastle-Antrim’s Jenay Faulkner was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Girls’ Basketball first team, capping off her impressive career in a Blue Devil uniform as the two-time P.O. Player of the Year and earning her third all-state honor.

Fulton County also received two all-state nods, as McConnellsburg’s Bronwyne Mellott and Southern Fulton’s Olivia Mottern claimed second-team honors for 2A and 1A, respectively.

Faulkner earned first-team recognition in 5A thanks to her record-breaking year at G-A, despite taking on a new role as point guard. She now holds every Blue Devil basketball record, including the school’s all-time scoring record (1,820 points) and points in a single game. She also led the team in virtually every category her senior year. She averaged 18.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, and added 4.2 assists, 2.5 blocks and 4 steals per game.

Mellott and Mottern also broke their respective school’s all-time scoring record on the way to leading their teams deep into the playoffs.

Mellott led the Lady Spartans to their first District 5 championship since 1991, and led the area with an astounding  26.3 points per game average. She also broke the long-standing McConnellsburg all-time scoring record and moved up to the area’s second all-time leading scorer behind Cumberland Valley Christian's Miranda Payne with 2,306 points.

Mellott has earned all-state recognition for four consecutive seasons.

Mottern averaged 17.9 points per game on the way to breaking the SF all-time scoring record from 2014 with 1,740 points.  And despite an injury which sidelined her toward the end of the regular season, Mottern bounced back to lead her team to success in the PIAA girls basketball tournament, as the Indians advanced to the 1A Sweet 16. This is Mottern's first all-state honor.
