F-F Highlights: Shalom boys win NCSAA opener

The Shalom Christian girls and boys basketball teams ventured to Mount Vernon Nazarene in Mount Vernon, Ohio to play in the National Christian Schools Athletic Association tournament and the teams split results in the first round Thursday.

The Flames boys picked up a 48-34 win over South Merrimack Christian of New York. Shalom will play the Riverdale (Md.) Baptist JV team Friday.

In girls action, the Riverdale Baptist JV team beat Shalom, 44-37. The Flames will play Friday in the next round against Northumberland Christian.

Shalom fell behind 14-9 after one period in the girls game Thursday, but trailed only 31-29 after three periods. Riverdale Baptist enjoyed a 13-8 advantage in the final period.

Brooke Emge led the Flames (18-8) with 12 points and Kylie Eby added eight. Hannah Pogue led in rebounding with six.

Cumberland Valley Christian is also playing in the NCSAA event. The Blazers fell 68-55 to Covenant School of West Virginia in its boys opener Thursday and will play Elk Valley (W.Va.) Christian on Friday.

The CV Christian girls played in a late game against Rochester (N.Y.) Rapids White and were edged 35-34. The Blazers were to play Mountain View Christian of Virginia on Friday.
