Forbes Road falls short in District 5 1A boys game

Forbes Road could not contain Shade sniper Brady Fyfe.

That was the key to the Panthers' 91-69 victory over the Cardinals in a District 5 Class 1A boys basketball first round playoff game Tuesday night at Cairnbrook.

Fyfe, who came in averaging 23.7 points per game, put on a strong shooting display to score 43 points. Fyfe connected on 17 of 26 shots from the field, including 8-for-14 from 3-point range. He also led his team with 12 rebounds.

Forbes Road closes out its season with an 11-11 record. Shade (17-6) will play No. 1 seed Shanksville (22-1) on Friday in a semifinal game.

For the Cardinals, Aaron Schepis was 9-for-18 from the field and scored 22 points, while Matt Brown hit on 8 of 15 shots and had 21 points. Michael Fleck had nine boards for Forbes Road, which was out-rebounded 47-26.

The Panthers held a 22-17 lead after one quarter and 34-28 at halftime. But in the third, Shade ballooned its lead to 64-45 with a 30-17 margin. The Panthers canned a total of 13 threes on 32 attempts, while the Cardinals made 4 of 11.
