F-F Highlights: Chastulik improves own school record
For the third time this season, Kelton Chastulik has broken Chambersburg's indoor school record in the shot put.
On Friday at the first-ever Mercersburg Invitational, Chastulik cleared 57 feet, coming in at 57-0.25 to increase his own best mark.
There were a number of other multi-event winners in the local-heavy invitational.
On the girls side, Mercersburg's Finley Stewart won the 55 dash (7.53 seconds) and the 200 (27.36), while Taryn Parks, of Greencastle-Antrim, took first in the 800 (2:22.43) and 1,600 (5:07.29). McConnellsburg's McKenzie Gelvin won one event on the track (400, 59.82 seconds) and one in the field (long jump, 15-9).
The Spartans also had a double-winner on the boys side, as Josh Booth captured first in the 400 (53.59) and the 55 hurdles (8.23). Mercersburg Academy's Aaron Grant won the long jump (20-1.25) and the 55 dash (6.66 seconds).

Upset city
After losing to Everett by 25 points earlier this season, Fannett-Metal's boys basketball team pulled off a big upset with a 59-54 defeat of the Warriors on Monday.
Mikell McGee led the team with 31 points, while Lucas Wingert put up his second straight double-digit performance with 17 points.
Narrow escape
A pair of area boys basketball teams put up narrow victories Monday night.
After defeating Chestnut Ridge by nearly 30 points last week, Forbes Road's rematch with Lions came down to the wire. With 10 seconds left, Matt Brown rebounded a missed free throw, then sank two of his own to put the Cardinals ahead. Chestnut Ridge's last-ditch 3-point attempt rimmed out for a 62-61 FR win.
Brown led the Cardinals with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Aaron Schepis and Brycen Hohman each scored 14 points, and Grayson Hall also contributed 10.
Meanwhile, Waynesboro gutted out its third straight win, this time an 83-81 win over Dover. The last three victories for the Indians have been by a combined seven points.
Despite being down by 11 heading into the fourth quarter, the Indians used an incredible foul-shooting game (28-for-32 from the line) to ensure the victory. With about two minutes remaining, 'Boro took the lead for good on a Mitch Neterer 3-pointer.
"Foul trouble played a big part for both teams, and our depth was good enough to that we were able to withstand in the end," Waynesboro coach Tom Hoffman said. "We're coming off four games where we were right around 50 percent from the line, and tonight, we don't win if we don't make all of those free throws."
Cameron Keck and Evan Hine both notched career-highs with 30 and 20 points, respectively. Kyle Hoffman added 15.
Top performers
Boys basketball
- Southern Fulton's Dylan Gordon and Chase Varner both put up 17 points in a 68-50 defeat of Tussey Mountain. Gordon capped off his third straight double-double with 12 rebounds. Freshman Gabe Stotler scored 10 points.
Girls basketball
- Cat Weber scored nearly half of Waynesboro's points in a 47-41 win over non-league foe Gettysburg. She finished with 22 points, just one shy of her season-high.
- Despite a 25-point game for Olivia Mottern, Southern Fulton lost to Southern Huntingdon, 47-39. Mottern also had nine rebounds, and is now just 13 points away from the Indians' all-time scoring record.
Gymnastics
- Jocelyn Kibbe and Jaelynn Walker tied for first in all-around at Chambersburg's meet with Paramount with 31.4 points apiece. Kibbe took first in both the floor exercise (8.6) and the balance beam (8.5), while Walker earned the top spot in the uneven bars (7.5).
