Waynesboro sweeps James Buchanan in basketball twinbill


Waynesboro hosted James Buchanan for a girls-boys basketball doubleheader Friday for "Pack the House" Night and the home team captured wins in both Mid Penn Colonial Division games.

The Maiden girls picked up a 52-34 victory, while the Indians won 61-46 in the nightcap.

Waynesboro (8-4, 5-2 MPC) held a 25-15 lead at halftime of the girls game over JB (4-9, 2-5 MPC) as Chelsea Cover scored 10 points. Final statistics were not available.

In the boys game, it was the Rockets (3-10, 1-6 MPC) who jumped ahead at halftime, holding a 17-16 lead after one period and 28-23 at halftime.

However, 'Boro (8-5, 5-2 MPC) collected itself at halftime, and roared to a 26-9 advantage in the third quarter that gave it the lead for good.

Waynesboro put three players in double figures - Cameron Keck scored 16 points, Mitch Neterer had 14 (with four 3-pointers) and Kyle Hoffman hit his season high with 10 points. Hoffman also dished out six assists and Jay Alvarez pulled down nine rebounds.

While the Indians shot 42 percent from the field (22-for-52), the Rockets hit only 34 percent (18-53).

James Buchanan's Jared Pine scored 19 points, which is a career-high, while Hunter Reath added 12.
