P.O. Female Athlete of the Week: Camryn Greenlee

To many players, scoring 14 points would not be considered an offensive explosion.

But to Chambersburg's Camryn Greenlee, who is considered a defensive specialist, that point total she put up last Friday in the third-place game of the Hanover tournament represented quite a milestone.

It was twice as many points as she's ever scored in a game in her three-year career, it led to a 52-34 victory over Susquenita, and it earned Greenlee the honor of Public Opinion Female Athlete of the Week.

"Yeah, I was a little surprised," Greenlee said. "But I think I've started to improve my shooting recently anyway, so I shot a little more than I normally do."

Trojan coach Barry Purvis said, "Camryn made a couple of steals and scored off them, but she also hit a couple of 3-pointers, too. And she had a really good defensive game - she took one of their better players and did a good job on her. She was picked to the all-tournament team.

"We've been looking for this from her, and hopefully she can keep it up. She has the ability to score; hopefully this will get her started."

Greenlee said, "That should help my confidence, so I'm going to try to keep scoring."

Defense is her calling card, however. She uses her quickness to make it tough on opponent's ballhandlers.

"She's really quick and aggressive and we usually put her on the other team's best offensive guard," Purvis said. "She's a real pest on defense. And she's also a pretty good rebounder despite her height (5-foot-2) because she's quick to the ball and has good reactions."

Greenlee said, "I try to use my quickness on defense. Sometimes I get called for hand checks, so I have to move my feet faster to get to the spot first. Sometimes players get frustrated, and try to push me away or run around me."

Chambersburg is hoping teams will have to start worrying about her offense, too.
