District 5 announces all-star games

The District 5 All-Star Basketball games will be held on March 21 at Chestnut Ridge. The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at 7:45.

The showcase will pit the best of the West teams (Somerset, Shade, Shanksville, Berlin, Conemaugh Twp., Windber, North Star, Meyersdale, Salisbury and Johnstown Christian) against the top stars of the East teams (Southern Fulton, McConnellsburg, Forbes Road, Everett, Bedfrod, Northern Bedford, Ridge and Tussey Mountain).

Proceeds from ticket sales help fund $6,000 worth of scholarships that the Dist. 5 AD Association provides to student-athletes each year.

McConnellsburg boys coach Dane Pollock will be the head coach for the East boys teams. The local senior selections are as follows:

CORRECTION

In Wednesday's edition of Public Opinion, there was incorrect information in an article titled "Shalom boys finish season in national tourney."

Shalom's boys basketball team actually beat New Jerusalem, 48-47. The Flames finished the season with a 22-8 record.
