BOYS HOOPS: Wednesday's roundup

McConnellsburg 57, Tussey Mountain 35: McConnellsburg’s defense paved the way for a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference boys basketball victory over Tussey Mountain on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (15-3, 11-2 SHL, 9-2 ICC) held the Titans to fewer than 10 points in each of the final three quarters.

“(Parker) Cornelius scored his 1,000th point recently and we held him to two points,” McConnellsburg coach Dane Pollock said. (Andrew) Bithell scored eight in the first half, but we held him to just two in the second.”

The Spartans placed four players in double figures - Landon Richards (15 points), Jake Boehme and Ian Cheatle (12 each) and Chase Novak (11).

“I told the guys if we out-rebound a team and we limit our turnovers, we have a good chance to win,” Pollock said. “We had only eight turnovers tonight and were at least even with them on the boards. We shared the basketball tonight and got balanced scoring, and that’s always good.”

CHeatle led in rebounds with eight and Novak and Richards each had four assists.

Middletown 67, Waynesboro 39: Middletown’s offense was on fire, and Waynesboro couldn’t keep up in a non-league loss.

The Indians (6-14) were outscored 43-15 in the first half, including 30-8 in the second quarter, and never recovered.

For the fourth straight game, Kyle Hoffman finished in double figures, leading the Indians with 14 points. Cameron Keck scored eight, and Evan Hine contributed seven points.

Everett 56, Forbes Road 45: Despite getting better and better as the night went on, Forbes Road suffered a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference loss to Everett.

The Cardinals (6-13, 4-10 SHL, 4-8 ICC) out-scored the Warriors 26-16 in the second half, but couldn’t dig itself out of a 21-point halftime deficit.

Aaron Schepis paced the Forbes Road offense with 16 points, and Grayson Hall scored eight.

Shenandoah Valley 75, Shalom Christian 68: On Tuesday night, Shenandoah Valley Christian’s offense was just a smidgen better than Shalom, and the Flames were handed a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference loss.

Shalom (14-6, 8-3 MDCC) racked up eight 3-pointers, but the Patriots countered that with 10 of their own.

Jonah Stains had another fine game for the Flames, scoring 33 points, and Cameron Roseman contributed 21 points. Stains and Roseman split Shalom’s 3-pointers evenly.
