BOYS: Tuesday, Trojans fall short of Harrisburg
HARRISBURG - For basically the entire game Tuesday night, Chambersburg’s boys basketball team was playing catch up.
The Trojans trailed Harrisburg 14-6 after the first quarter and could never quite mount a comeback. They suffered a 52-42 defeat in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division matchup.
“We seemed to lack traction for most of the night,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “I felt that we were a big shot away from turning it around or making a run, but we just never got that play.”
Harrisburg (12-1, 9-0 MPC) also didn’t help the Trojans (6-9, 3-7 MPC). The Cougars were lights out from the free-throw line, going 15 of 16.
“We didn’t make anything up there by putting them on the line,” Shreffler said. “In the second quarter when we played our best basketball, they actually shot their best during that time. Joel Torres was really a factor in the second half, and I thought Tyron Williams was a really good facilitator. He really got Joel involved, but we would score a 2-pointer, then they would hit a 3. Even though we played well, we never gained anything.”
Cole Christian led Chambersburg’s offense with 16 points, while Torres was right behind with 11. ByShawn Mincie finished with 10 points and four rebounds, and Williams had four assists.
The Trojans also saw the return of Carlin Christian, who has been injured for the whole season. He played about half the game and scored a 3-pointer.

Shippensburg 58, Big Spring 43: Big Spring was able to forge a three-point lead early in the third quarter, but Shippensburg took over from that point on to earn a Mid Penn Colonial Division victory.
“They scored on their first four possessions of the third quarter and were up 33-30,” Ship coach Ray Staver said. “But this was their fourth game in the last five days and I think they got leg weary. We were able to get the ball out and got several dunks, and once they had to extend their 2-3 zone, we found some holes.”
Wade Mills pocketed a career-high 27 points to lead the Greyhounds (10-6, 8-1 MPC), and Teagan Staver matched his season high with 12 points.
Peyton Bechtold led the Bulldogs (8-10, 1-8 MPC) with 13 points.

Waynesboro 55, Northern York 39: After a tough loss to Northern York early this season, Waynesboro looked to rebound in the teams’ second meeting. Tuesday, the Indians did just that, claiming a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Polar Bears.
Waynesboro took an 18-8 jump on Northern in the first quarter, and racked up an 11-point lead at the half thanks to 13 points from Cameron Keck in the first two frames.
Keck finished the game with 17 points.
Kyle Hoffman led the Indians (4-12, 3-6 MPC) with 19 points, while Dakota Rhyne added 11.
