Trojan boys fall to Carlisle after rough 1st

CARLISLE - After the first quarter Friday night, Chambersburg's boys basketball team played quite well.

But the first quarter was more than enough for Carlisle to secure a victory in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action. The Thundering Herd went up 21-7 after the first eight minutes and held on for a 60-49 victory.

"We turned the ball over quite a bit in that quarter," Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. "They also really, really out-rebounded us in that quarter, which really hurt us. After that, I thought we played fairly even for the rest of the game, but we dug ourselves a hole in that quarter by not being as aggressive as what we needed to be."

Carlisle (10-2, 6-1 MPC) did a better job of getting to the foul line, as well. The Herd were 18 of 28 from the line, while Chambersburg (6-5, 3-4 MPC) was a mere 10-for-15.

"Certainly John Shupp's physicality would've helped in a game like tonight," Shreffler said. "He really adds that physical presence that we've been missing. Tuesday and tonight, we were really hurt on the boards. Those are probably the biggest two areas that effected us."

The Trojans were led by Cole Christian and ByShawn Mincie, who scored 17 and 15 points, respectively. Ezechiel Cadet came off the bench for a career-high 10 points.

"He came off the bench in the second half and really gave us a big boost of energy," Shreffler said. "He goes to the boards very hard, and he's very physical."
