BOYS: Wednesday, Spartans breeze by Fairfield

FAIRFIELD - Despite trailing by a point after the first quarter, McConnellsburg turned up the heat in a non-league boys basketball game Wednesday night.

The Spartans outscored Fairfield by 18 points in the second quarter and claimed a 58-32 victory.

"I hate to say we came out sluggish, but it was a tough first quarter," McConnellsburg coach Dane Pollock said. "We had to get used to the style of game that we were going to be in. Obviously, the second quarter, we adjusted well. We changed our game, it worked out well. I thought we played pretty good defense the whole game."

Jake Boehme was the offensive leader for the Spartans (9-1). He scored a game-high 16 points and added four steals. Ian Cheatle also had 12 points, and Quintin Miller stuffed the stat sheet with five points, nine rebounds and five assists.
