BOYS HOOPS: Friday, Shalom dominates CV Christian


Shalom Christian 56, Cumb. Valley Christian 21 >> The Shalom Christian Flames earned a comfortable victory over Cumberland Valley Christian in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game Friday.

Defensively, Shalom dominated CVC, limiting the Blazers to 10 points in the first half, and prevented all scoring in the third frame.

“Defensively in the third quarter we were more aggressive and were able to make some plays to lead to some easier scores,” Shalom coach Danley Shank said.

The Flames (2-0, 2-0 MDCC) totaled 21 points in the third quarter for their most productive frame.

Jonah Stains, who single-handedly matched CVC’s score with 21 points, led Shalom in scoring, followed by Cameron Roseman who scored 12. Spencer Propst led the Blazers (0-2, 0-2 MDCC) with eight points.

Chestnut Ridge 79, Forbes Road 47 >> Forbes Road got off to a sluggish start and never caught up in a Sideling Hill League loss to Chestnut Ridge.

The Cardinals (0-1, 0-1 SHL) were hindered by an injury and trailed 43-19 at halftime.

"We lost Aaron Schepis early to an injury, and that put a lot of pressure on our young players," FR coach Trent Black said. "It was the first varsity game for all but two of our guys. We'll look to grow from here."

Owen Gilbert led Forbes Road with 13 points; he nailed four 3-pointers, and Brycen Hohman also contributed 11 points. But the Lions had four players in double figures, including Noah Dillon and Jay Grubb, who both cracked 20 points.

Mercersburg 61, Randolph-Macon 39 >> Mercersburg Academy boys earned a dominant victory over Randolph-Macon in a non-league game.

The Blue Storm trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, but turned it around in the second frame, outscoring Randolph-Macon 23-9 before the half.

“We started off slow, but really racked up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and were able to extend the lead,” Mercersburg coach Sean Crocker said. “Luka (Sevalijevic) was a huge spark for us tonight.”

Sevalijevic scored 27 points for the Blue Storm, shooting 9-for-15 from the field.

Carlos Austin and Eli Riley also had double-digit performances for Mercersburg (1-0), scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively.
