Trojans find their bats in New Oxford tourney

After scoring just eight runs in their last eight games, the Chambersburg baseball team claimed a huge 13-3 win over Delone Catholic in the opening game of the New Oxford baseball tournament on Saturday.

But despite the influx of hits coming from the slumping Trojan offense, Chambersburg settled for second in the tournament after falling to the Colonials 3-2 in extra innings in the championship game.

Chambersburg (4-8) racked up 15 hits in the opener as five Trojans two or more hits. Hayden Kissel, Kaden Hoover, Spencer Hockensmith, and Kevin and Devin Carbaugh each had multiple hits.

Hoover and Karsen Rush led the team with three RBIs each, and Skylar McLean earned the win on the mound.

In the title game, Chambersburg came back to tie the game in the sixth inning thanks to gutsy base running by Max Armstrong, who stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

But a New Oxford sacrifice bunt and a fielders choice ball in the bottom of the eighth doomed Chambersbrug in extra innings.

Austin Kopp had a quality outing on the mound in the championship game, throwing 7 2/3 innings and of 98 pitches thrown, 73 were strikes.
