SF grad Connor Litton signs with East Carolina

After a season like Connor Litton had at Cowley (Kan.) Community College, it's no surprise that Division I scouts came sniffing.

The 2015 Southern Fulton grad finished with a batting average of .366 that featured 79 hits, 53 RBIs and 48 runs scored, and after a long fall season, Litton has finally landed his next step.

Last month, he signed with East Carolina University, which finished in the top 20 in the nation last year. Litton still has one more year with Cowley, then will have two years of eligibility remaining once he joins the Pirates for the 2018 season.

"I wanted to go to a place where I could win a national championship, and I think that's my best chance," Litton said. "Just the program and how it's on the rise got me interested. The coaching staff is really good, and they've got good recruits coming in."

Just like while he was at Southern Fulton, Litton continues to be a heavy hitter for the Tigers. He had three home runs, 20 doubles and a triple as a freshman.

"I know there were multiple Division I schools interested in him, and ones that contacted me, they were looking for a hitter in their lineup," SF baseball coach Dustin Fischer said. "That's definitely what got their attention."

A shortstop at SF, Litton has been playing third base for Cowley, and this year, he has a goal of breaking the all-time hits record for the Tigers. He is already more than halfway there.

Despite the signing with ECU, there may be a different future for Litton, who is still hopeful he may be picked in the MLB Draft.

"I just wanted to make sure I had a place next year, so now I don't have to worry about that," Litton said. "ECU is great, but I've still talked to a few guys and I'm still on their radar (for the draft). If I do better this year than I did last year, I hope to have at least some offers."

Fischer said, "I think it's a realistic goal for him. A lot of people I know who have much more baseball knowledge and maybe more connections to the next level say that, of everyone in our area, Connor is the one that has the best shot. They foresee him being on a Major League team someday."

Litton was also a standout basketball player at SF, earning P.O. Player of the Year as a senior. He averaged a double-double during his senior season and scored more than 800 points as an Indian.
