Mercersburg moves on to PAISAA semifinal


The Mercersburg Academy baseball team prevailed in an eight-inning battle during the quarterfinal round of the PAISAA tournament with a 8-7 victory over Penn Charter on Friday.

Mercersburg will play No. 1 Malvern Prep in the tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday at Upper Perkiomen.

All of Mercersburg's offensive action came in the fourth inning, when the Blue Storm scored seven runs, but Penn Charter added six between the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. Will Oakley played hero in the eighth with the game-winning RBI, and closed out the game on the mound to lock in the team's 11th straight win.

Oakley went 2-for-4 and pitched the last three innings. Brandon Thomas went 3-for-4 for Mercersburg (24-4).
