Sunday, the Mercersburg baseball team collected its sixth straight MAPL title after sweeping a doubleheader over Lawrenceville. The Blue Strom won the first game 1 1-0, and came out firing for a 9-2 victory in Game 2.
In the bottom of the seventh of Game 1, St. John Smith hit a two-out single to bring in the game-winning run from second base. Will Oakley got the win on the mound in the opening game, pitching seven shutout innings. He struck out three for the Blue Storm (21-4, 9-1).
In Game 2, Mercersburg scored seven runs through the third and fourth innings, and added a pair of runs in the final two frames to lock in the MAPL championship. Oakley went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored three times. Winning pitcher for Mercersburg was Tommy Voce who has had just two starts this season. He pitched the complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out three.
