Chambersburg has had a rough season offensively, but one player has been consistent at the plate. Manning Brookens tied the school record for the longest hit streak after registering a hit in 15 consecutive games.

Brookens’ batting average has fluctuated between .350 and .360 throughout the season as he established himself as one of the Trojans’ most productive batters.

“He’s been our top hitter throughout the season,” Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said. “He’s done a nice job moving around the lineup, and adjusting to those (batting) positions. As the team struggled, he’s been the top guy throughout.”

Brookens tied the record held by 1999 graduate Andy Dangler, who was later drafted by the Minnesota Twins.

Comeback kids: After firing a triumphant no-hitter last week, James Buchanan’s Zach Monninger hit a rough patch against Waynesboro, but the Rockets pulled off a comeback after facing a five-run deficit in the first inning.

James Buchanan allowed just one run in the remaining innings on the way to a 13-6 Mid Penn Colonial Division victory.

Friendly competition: Tuesday, the Southern Fulton baseball team battled through more rainy conditions that included an hour-long rain delay before a doubleheader against Northern Bedford. To pass the time the opposing teams came together for a little backyard fun, which included games of rock, paper scissors, tic-tac-toe and hangman.

“It was pretty neat watching them mess around and entertain themselves with the opposing team,” Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said.

The Indians swept the doubleheader with back-to-back shutouts. And probably a few wins in tic-tac-toe.

Home run hero: Waynesboro’s Brady Riddell is no stranger to the walkoff home run - especially against Big Spring.

Thursday, Riddell hit his second game-deciding dinger of the season against the Bulldogs for a Mid Penn Colonial Division victory.

While the Mid Penn Colonial race has already been decided, Waynesboro is vying for a better seed in the District 3 Class AAAA tournament, in which the team is currently ranked 15th.

Winning rotations: The two top baseball teams in the area, Greencastle-Antrim, the Mid Penn Colonial champion, and Southern Fulton, the top team in the Sideling Hill League/ Inter-County Conference, have each thrown a number of different pitchers onto the mound and have continued to find success.

Southern Fulton has had eight different pitchers register wins this season, while Greencastle has five different pitchers with notches in the win column.
