HUSTONTOWN >> It was not a good night for Forbes Road's pitchers, and McConnellsburg took advantage in a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference baseball game on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals walked a total of 13 batters and hit three more, and the Spartans captured a 19-9 victory in six innings.

"Our pitching just fell to pieces," FR coach Randy Gelvin said. "We spotted them 10 runs in the first inning, and our starting pitcher just couldn't throw strikes. We walked three in a row, then the next guy got a double, then we walked one more before I had to make a change."

McConnellsburg (10-2, 10-2 SHL, 10-1 ICC) managed to rack up 19 runs on just 11 hits.

Although the Spartans had a 10-0 lead after the top of the first, the Cardinals (3-9, 3-8 SHL, 2-8 ICC) continued to fight.

"We actually made a game out of it, getting to 10-6, and we had a hard-hit ball that would've made it 10-7," Gelvin said. "But they made a nice play, and then the wheels came off again in the sixth inning. But you just can't spot anyone 10 runs and think you're gonna win ballgames."

Chase Novak, JT Barnard, Logan Little and Quintin Miller all had two hits for the Spartans.

For the Cardinals, Brock Broadwater slammed a three-run home run — the first homer of the season for Forbes Road — and Lane Kendall finished 2-for-3.

FANNETT-METAL 9, ROCKWOOD 6 >> Fannett-Metal got itself in the win column with a non-league victory over Rockwood.

The Tigers (1-12) scored at least one run in every inning, despite putting up just six hits.

"We walked a lot, but it's good for us to get a win," F-M coach Kory Miller said. "I'd say we outlasted them more than anything."

Dalton Friese had an RBI double for the Tigers, and Hunter Kann (1-5) picked up the win on the mound and stole three bases. Chris Rosenberry also stole a pair of bases, and Kyler Harris drove in two runs.

SOUTHERN FULTON 13, CHESTNUT RIDGE 1 >> Southern Fulton put together a complete-game effort to take down Chestnut Ridge in six innings of Sideling Hill League action.

"We've really been playing a lot better baseball than we were at the beginning of the season," Indian coach Dustin Fischer said. "We're hitting the ball better and getting a lot of line drives. (Trent) Rider had a really good night, and when he's on the mound, we have a lot more confidence."

Rider scattered around four hits and struck out 11 batters in six innings of work. He didn't walk anyone.

Tristan Douglas led the Indians (11-2, 9-1 SHL) by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Connor Litton, Rider and Dylan Gordon were all 2-for-3. Litton drove in three runs, Rider had two RBIs and Gordon plated one.

The Blue Storm (12-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, and after St. John's put up three in the fourth, Mercersburg responded with 11 runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.

"Other than the top of the fourth inning, we played well," Storm coach Karl Reisner said. "It was pretty one sided, and the kids did well."

Tristan Baker and Deji Andrews both finished 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Dylan Bartlett got the win on the mound to improve to 3-0 on the season.
