BASEBALL: Thursday's roundup, Shippensburg collects third straight shutout
NEWVILLE >> For the third time in as many games, Shippensburg's baseball team achieved a shutout.
The Greyhounds put together an all-around fine game to take down Big Spring, 6-0, in Mid Penn Colonial Division action on Thursday afternoon. Ship has not allowed a run since last Friday in a loss to Chambersburg.
"We came out and played really hard tonight," Hound coach Nate Rosenberry said. "We got great pitching, and were solid on defense. We also got some clutch hits when we needed them."
Noah Auman earned the complete-game victory for the Hounds (9-3, 5-1 MPC). He scattered three hits, struck out six and walked just one.
Ship got another splendid effort from Daulton Brenize at the plate. He finished 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBIs. Nick Jacoby and Zane Hershey also contributed a pair of hits each.

BOILING SPRINGS 5, JAMES BUCHANAN 1 >> Despite a nice game from pitcher Zach Vosburg, James Buchanan couldn't get enough offense going in a Mid Penn Colonial Division loss to Boiling Springs.
Vosburg threw the whole game, giving up seven hits and only four earned runs. He fanned two batters and walked one.
"Zach threw a really nice game for us and gave us a chance to win," JB coach Scott Folmar said. "Again, today, we did not swing the bats well at all. We had several opportunities in a handful of innings with guys in scoring position, and we couldn't come up with the big hits, especially with two outs, that would've been the difference in the game today."
The Rockets (3-7, 1-5 MPC) got a strong game from Hunter Spoonhour, who went 2-for-3. Michael McCartney had the team's lone RBI.

FORBES ROAD 8, FANNETT-METAL 2 >> Forbes Road exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to claim a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference victory over Fannett-Metal.
"We got out to an early 1-0 lead, but we had a bad fourth inning," Tiger coach Kory Miller said. "We gave up five runs, allowed a couple of hits to fall that shouldn't have and made an error. We were more aggressive today, but none of the balls were hit hard enough to force any mistakes."
The Cardinals (3-8, 3-7 SHL, 2-7 ICC) got a complete-game effort from Matt Brown, who earned his first win on the mound.
Chris Rosenberry and Hunter Kann each had a double for the Tigers (0-12, 0-11 SHL, 0-10 ICC).

MERCERSBURG JVS 7, CV CHRISTIAN 4 >> Despite Cumberland Valley Christian getting 12 hits and Mercersburg Academy's JVs making seven errors, the Blazers could manage only four runs in a non-league game.
"When you look at the scorebook, it looks like we should have won," CVC coach Keith Propst said. "We played better than we have been, but we left 11 runners on base."
For the Blazers (2-4), Jackson Park, Austin Garcia and Conner Chapman were each 3-for-4 and Spencer Propst was 2-for-3. For the Blue Storm (3-3), Nick Miller had a double and three RBIs.
