BASEBALL: Wednesday's roundup, Greencastle-Antrim plays complete game in win over Boiling Springs

BOILING SPRINGS >> This is the kind of game Greencastle-Antrim baseball coach Eric Shaner has been waiting for.

The Blue Devils racked up 10 runs on 17 hits, their pitchers combined to throw a three-hitter and they played a relatively clean defensive game. The result? A 10-1 Mid Penn Colonial Division win over Boiling Springs.

"I've never seen so many two-out RBI hits in a game," Shaner said. "This is the potential we have. We hit the ball really well against a good pitcher, and we pitched well against a good offensive team."

Myles Gayman went 4-for-5 and scored twice from the leadoff spot, and Quin Ambeault went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Kurt Hansen and Matt Kline both had two hits and a double, and Derek Measell went 3-for-3 with a double and also drove in three runs.

Shaner said, "We played a complete game tonight. Hopefully we can start peaking and begin to play our best baseball."

Measell (4-0) also got the win on the mound, going four innings and giving up just two hits with four strikeouts.

SOUTHERN FULTON 10, TUSSEY MOUNTAIN 3 >> Southern Fulton played a solid overall game and handled Tussey Mountain in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference game.

The Indians (10-2, 8-1 SHL, 7-1 ICC) racked up 15 hits, scored at least one run in every inning and starting pitcher Cooper Grove took a one-hitter into the seventh inning.

"We just had a good game," Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said. "We hit a lot of line drives and were very aggressive on the basepaths (10 steals). Cooper had a very good day on the mound, too."

Connor Litton finished 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, and Zach Clark and Trent Rider both finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a pair of steals. Grove (2-0) gave up two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also had seven strikeouts and three walks.

MCCONNELLSBURG 10, EVERETT 2 >> McConnellsburg scored in just one inning but produced more than enough runs in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference win over Everett.

The Spartans (9-2, 9-2 SHL, 9-1 ICC) exploded for 10 runs in the third inning, led by two RBIs each by Taylor Souders and Logan Little.

"We hit the ball and were able to string some hits together," McConnellsburg coach Brian Ramsey said, "but we still need to develop more consistency. We didn't score any runs the rest of the game, and that was a bit disappointing. But we did what we needed to get a win."

J.T. Barnard pitched a solid game and improved to 2-2 on the season for the Spartans. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts in six innings.
